Last Saturday I had the opportunity to attend a seminar on Finding Your Purpose. A girlfriend of mine works with the lady who was putting on the seminar. I am a huge believer in supporting businesses run by women. I think that it is important to help out the “little guys”.
The seminar ran from 10-3 with a couple of 10 minute breaks and a half hour lunch. There were 8 participants, only 1 man. We were her first class. She was a little nervous but quickly fell into a great rhythm. She spent time talking about purpose and finding hers in this new business venture. She told us about parts of her life that were traumatic and how she thought her purpose was to be her son’s mother. And just how wrong she was.
Then we got our first assignment. 30 minutes to answer 15 questions in our workbook. The questions were mainly designed to help discover one’s positive traits. There were a few that were difficult. She talked some more, then we got our second assignment. This time 10 minutes to answer 7 questions about our weaknesses.
At this point we had a lunch break.
After lunch, another woman spoke. Mainly about how to develop your self-esteem and personal skills so you can grow. She was very nervous.
Overall, it was an interesting day. I am not sure that I am searching for my purpose at this moment. Rather I have a long and growing list of things I
would like to will do. Most are easier to do when I am not trying to raise children. And the time will come when it is possible to start working towards some of the more personal goals. Right now my main focus is raising my kids well without going to the poor house! 😉
