No Spend is Over

Last week was a success. I got up Monday through Thursday mornings and did a workout. I am feeling good. Sundays are becoming harder to get a workout in but I am going to file it under the importance of rest days. ūüėČ

The no spend challenge was a success. I only ate out twice last month. Once when I went ice fishing and the other was treating Diva because she had a bad week. It was not as bad as I thought it would be. Cooking on Sundays definitely made the difference. It seems like my no spending rubbed off and some of my coworkers started bringing their lunches as well.

Wednesday is the start of my “no meat” challenge. I will continue to eat seafood but will try to eat a more plant based diet. I will be looking into sources of protein that aren’t legumes and cheese. Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

At the end of the month, I am going to replace the battery in my scale and see if my lifestyle changes are making a difference in my weight. Then I am going to try my hardest not to let the number affect me mentally. I am seeing muscles starting to make their appearance and that is motivating me to continue. Taking jeans straight out of the dryer and putting them on with ease is also helping. I have a set of jeans a size down that I grew out of and never got rid of. These are my next goal. Once they are easy to put on out of the dryer I think I will have to figure out what to do with myself next.

Sadly not much else is going on. My life right now is just wash, rinse, repeat. Outside of the books I read not much seems to change. I am telling myself that this is just a season and this work, work, work, work only schedule is not going to be my life forever. It’s a hard sell some days, but I realize that sacrifices must be made.

Speaking of books, I am currently reading “Becoming” by Michelle Obama and I highly recommend it.

Alright, that’s all I got for now.

Book review – Gone Girl

Gone Girl (Source)

This book came highly recommended by 2 of my friends.  So I put it on hold at the library.  At the time there was over 800 people on the waiting list.  Currently there are 1410 people on the wait list.

Saturday I went to the library to pick up the book.  As of this moment late last night or very early this morning, depending on how you look at it, I finished this book.  I am not a super fast reader but this book held my attention.

In the beginning I started to question both my friends as the book was slow.  They assured me there would be a point in the book after which I would not be able to put it down.  I fund that part around midnight on Wednesday.

They were right.

I have had 2 very late nights in a row due to plot twist after plot twist.  Just when I thought I knew which way the story would go, another surprise.

Great read.

If you like mystery and suspense, this is the book for you.

For the love of a good book

I forgot how much I love reading until recently.

Usually I read books that have a purpose.  How to get out of debt, how to better manage time, how to be a better parent/person etc.

I get recommendations from anywhere and everywhere. Then I log into my local library to reserve a copy of the book if it is available.  Some books I have enjoyed and others I have endured.

A few months ago I read The Taker by Alma Katsu.  For whatever reason I punished to finish this book.  While the story line was interesting enough I was not heavily invested in the characters.  I finished the book because I started the book, no other reason.  My co-worker told me it was part of a trilogy.  I will not be picking up any of the other books.

A recommendation for Wild by Cheryl Strayed crossed my path and when I went to look it up online at the library the number of holds on the book was over 500.  I took that as an indication that the book will be a good one and I added my name to the list.  4 weeks ago it was my turn.  I thought this book would be like Eat, Pray, Love by Elizabeth Gilbert but outside.  It was not.  This book had me laughing and shaking my head.  I enjoyed this book.

Last night I stayed up finishing Secret Daughter by Silipi Somaya Gowda.¬† I have taken this book out of the library a few times but never found the time to start it and since it was in demand I could not renew it.¬† Well I started it sometime last week and thankfully I am finished so I can get some sleep.¬† The ending … I didn’t see it coming.¬† I really enjoyed this book.

I recently joined goodreads.com to try to keep the list of books I want to read in one place.  If you are a reader I would highly recommend this site.  If you are already a member and want to be friends, let me know.

I am waiting for Gone Girl by Gillian Flynn from the library.¬† I just checked and it is “on its way”.¬† Oh goodness, this sounds like more sleepless nights for me.

Do you have any book suggestions?
