5 things

I kept meaning to come on here and write a post but with the great weather, it was not happening.

Let’s see what is new or exciting.

  1. It’s a long weekend here in Canada.  We are celebrating Queen Victoria’s birthday.  So Monday is a holiday.  WHOO HOO!!!!
  2. On Friday my boss informed the managing owner that a couple of people were taking Tuesday off.  I jumped in and added so we are closing the office.  He did not react.  In fact he said he knows nothing we should do what we think is best.  I voted for taking Tuesday off.  Wouldn’t you know I have a telephone meeting at 2 pm but I can call in from home.
  3. Yesterday I went to Winners and bought myself a new maxi dress and sheets for my new mattress.  The new sheets fit!! 🙂  I love dresses.  One garment, a complete outfit!!  What’s not to love?
  4. I also went to see my cousin’s new little boy.  OMG is he ever cute and a good baby.  He did nothing but sleep and eat and … while we were there.  Minimal crying.  This prompted Diva to ask for a baby sibling.  BAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA.
  5. I am going to see Iron Man 3 tomorrow with a gift card.  Free movies, sign me up.

Now you are all caught up.

Food and a mattress update

How is it Tuesday already and I have not posted a meal plan!?!

Sunday – I have no clue as I was not home.  I think my kids had frozen pizza
Monday – Frozen pizza (Diva was in charge of dinner)
Tuesday – Grilled cheese sandwiches and fries
Wednesday – Honey garlic chicken wings and rice with broccoli
Thursday – Macaroni pie with sausage
Friday – leftovers
Saturday – South Street burgers and fries

I did a little grocery shopping today so we have some veggies and fruit. 🙂

Earlier in the year when I was on the cleanse with the dietary restrictions, I read a post about a different way to cook grilled cheese sandwiches.  Unfortunately old age means I can’t remember whose blog I read it on, so my apologies if it was you.  I swear I would give you the credit if I could only remember who you are.  :S  lol

Anyhoo, the post I read challenged me to make grilled cheese “her way”.  I grew up making grilled cheese by buttering one side of a piece of bread and putting the butter side down in the frying pan.  The new way is to put the butter in the pan let it melt then put in the bread, unbuttered.  There was a lot of debate as to which way produced a better sandwich.

Today I finally remembered this challenge and tried it out with Princess.  I made one sandwich my way and another the other way.  I split both sandwiches between Princess and I.  While I liked the ease of the buttered pan method, both Princess and I preferred the buttered bread way.  Princess said that the new way tasted like plastic. 😦

Last night on my new mattress was awesome.  First, I had to kick my kids out of my bed.  They were both needling to sleep with me.  LOL  I usually get up with a little hip pain.  This morning I was pain-free and I didn’t want to get out of bed it was so comfortable.  My bed is now very high, like mid-thigh high.  It gives my room a whole different look.  There is still a faint odor but not enough to bother me.  So far I am very happy with my purchase.

Falling down tired

I did pick up duty yesterday.

OMG.

I picked my Aunt up at 5 pm then drove 2.5 hours to my cousin who is in the hospital.  We stopped for dinner at a service centre.  By the time we arrived at my cousin it was almost 8:30.  My Aunt started to make herself comfortable and I had to remind her I still had to return home 2+ hours away.

ARGHHHHH.

I dropped her off at my cousin’s house and left.

I walked into my home at 11:30.  I was ready to fall over I was so tired.

Even though I was in bed by midnight, I spent most of today in a fog.

On a good note, the courier called me today to arrange delivery of my mattress.  She scheduled it for tomorrow then called back when she realized the delivery address (my workplace) was very close to the depot.

It was my lucky day as the driver who delivered it went above and beyond.  I live 7 minutes from work and he was agreeable to follow me home and cart the 100+ pound box to my front door. 🙂 🙂  I really lucked out.  I am so grateful.  I will be letting his superiors know tomorrow.

Since I was already home I wrestled the mattress out of the box.  It was a bit funny.  The recommendation is to remove the old mattress and put the new one down on the box spring or the platform.  I didn’t want to throw out my old mattress until I spent a couple of nights on the new one to see if I liked it.  My great idea is to lean the old mattress against the wall beside my bed.

I managed to move the old mattress against the wall and as I backed away the top of the mattress started to keel over.  It was hilarious to watch as it moved very slowly.  I had the fun of trying to get the new mattress out of the box.  Once I removed the outer compression layer there was a hissing sound.  The mattress was folded with the bottom on the inside so after I removed all the packaging I still had to flip the now expanding mattress over.  Another task as there are no handles on the mattress to make it easier.  Once that was accomplished, I left the mattress to decompress while I went back to work.

It feels so comfortable to lay on that I can’t wait for bed tonight. 🙂 I think I am going to be very happy with this purchase.  I will most likely need to purchase new sheets as my mattress is now 14 inches thick and the fitted sheet that I put on tonight is a tad too short.  I will try out the rest that are in my linen cupboard before I hit the store.

IWIW – 4/3/13

It’s been a long time since I posted about my wants.  Mainly because while the list of things I want is long I tend to forget about them once I put it on my mental list.  It’s working very well for my bank account so far. 😉

Unfortunately I can only put off buying certain things for so long.

High up on the list right now is a mattress.  It’s been on my list for some time.

The interest has been renewed since I got an email last week from Costco about a gel memory foam mattress on sale.

It’s $110 off until April 7.  So I have a few days to make up my mind. Plus if I don’t like it I can always fight with it and take it back to Costco.

It is the if I don’t like it part that has me hesitant to push buy.  This mattress is 82 lbs and will probably not fold easily once it has been unpacked.

What to do?  Right now, I’m leaning towards shut my eyes and buy it.

What would you do?

Mattress shopping, part 1

Friday I passed through Sleep Country Canada.  My girls tried out just about every bed and picked out a few.  They were all in the 4 digit range. 😦 I just can’t justify that right now.

Here’s two that caught my eye.

First up was the iComfort Savant.  Lovely mattress.  My kids fell in love.  It was nice but at almost $2500, I don’t think so.

The second one that I like was Serta iSeries Expression.  Very nice.  Super comfortable.  But it was almost $3100. Yikes!! 😦

The salesman at the store was “kind enough” to call someone and let me know they are willing to not charge me sales tax and throw in a free pillow and sell me the second one for 50% off.  How generous, I know.  I left the store feeling a bit overwhelmed.  How does one decide on a mattress?

On a totally different note, Princess fell in love with a pillow. It is $160!?! Huh???  Say what???  How does one pillow cost so much?

On to more reasonable options.

Costco has some foam mattresses that are a lot cheaper than $1000+.  In fact this one is actually on sale right now for $399.99 instead of $479.99.

If I want the frame the cost is $589.99; regular price $$699.99 after August 12.

Still a lot more affordable than $2000+.

The time to make a decision is sooner rather than later.  Especially with Costco’s great return policy.

Gill reminded me that Ikea and Sears are also good places to look for a mattress … so I would like to look at those stores before making my final decision.  I have less than a week if I want to take advantage of the Costco sale.
