A little burnt out

This week was a complete wash where exercise was concerned. I focused instead on getting to bed on time. And for whatever reason that seemed to make me more tired. Not sure why that happened but I was not motivated at all to workout. So I didn’t. I feel no guilt or regret. Sometimes more rest is a good thing. I will start fresh tomorrow.

Thursday night I went out with some of my coworkers to all you can eat sushi. I ordered and then someone else added to the order and we ended up with a ton of food. I figured we would have to pay extra for the waste but another coworker showed up and ate a few. When it was determined that we could eat no more, someone else said she’s take some of the rolls home and that was the end of that. I was so full that I missed eating breakfast on Friday. And at lunch I figured I should eat even though I didn’t feel hungry. I really over did it.

Yesterday my oldest turned 21 and her wish was to spend the day in Buffalo. So I took the day off. We left later than I wanted to but we still managed to hit most of the stores on my list and all of the ones on hers. Except for not finding a purse she had a great day. We bought a lot of food, so much so that the border security agent did not believe we spent so much and didn’t buy clothes. My daughter ranted on the way home that it is sexist to assume that we bought clothes. I will cringe when I see my credit card bill. In my defense I only bought what we like to eat that is not available in Canada.

The evidence of the cutting of the PT work hours is here. I lost an hour this week coming. Not much but I’ll take it. It means I will be home earlier on Monday and Wednesday. Although I am sure there may be the option to go home early or not work at all if the shift is slow.

Missing 3 PT shifts on the last pay period will have a significant effect on my next pay cheque. Thankfully this will just slow down my reno fund and not my day to day life. I feel badly for my coworkers who depend on this job.

This coming week, I don’t think I have any plans so it should be smooth sailing. I made cheese cannelloni and vegetable lasagna for my meals and will probably make something else on Tuesday to supplement.

I think I am ready for the upcoming week.

Need to step up my game

I took Thursday and Friday off last week from the day job and made a real attempt to get to bed on this side of midnight. It is amazing what a good night’s sleep can do. So I am recommitting to going to bed by 11:30 pm. This will be a challenge on the nights I work until 11 pm but it is possible. I will let the kitchen become a hot mess in order to facilitate 11:30.

Last Monday I walked into the night job only to be asked if I really wanted to work. That answer is usually always no. It was very quiet so I took advantage of the offer and went home.

Wednesday night, I went to the night job only to see a coworker at the team leader’s desk. As it turned out she thought she was on the schedule since it was her normal shift. Since she comes from a 40+ minutes drive away, I told her she could have my shift.

Friday, I was not so lucky and had to work my full shift. The manager of the call center was in and pulling certain people aside to let them know that as we get into the summer season, hours will be reduced.

I have also come to the conclusion that I need to ramp up my exercising. I remember my doctor telling me that I should do at least 150 minutes of exercise a week. I am close to 100 a week now. So I either need to work out every day or increase my current workout time. Since I do love my rest days, I will need to increase my workouts by at least 10 minutes. This seems doable.

So more sleep and exercise are on the agenda. What’s going on with you?

So much happened

It has been an eventful last few days.

Thursday, we took public transit downtown to see Wicked and it was just as amazing as I remembered. Diva was not happy at first but then they sang “Popular” and she was right into it. I’m so glad we were able to see it. Later on, we went to see Incredibles 2. So worth the wait, we all enjoyed it.

I took Friday off to make it an extra long weekend. I had plans to relax and read. It didn’t quite end up like that. Diva rides her bike to work. And Friday morning, she had the unfortunate experience of being tapped by a car. She told me that she made eye contact with the driver and both of them assumed the other would stop. They were both wrong. The driver realized this late and tapped the front tire of her bike, knocking her off the bike.

She is fine, but was in shock as her first reaction was to go to work. Her palms are scratched up. She was sent home and I made her go to the doctor, just to be on the safe side. He gave her some gauze and the all clear. Princess was also sent home on Friday as their manager thought she should be home with her sister, plus it was slow.

Yesterday, Princess and I went to run some errands. On our way to get our eyebrows done, the radio in the van stopped working. This was a bit odd, but I was not concerned until I looked at my dashboard and every needle was in the down position. Like the car was not on, but I was still moving. I had the foresight to get off the road. I turned off my van and it refused to turn back on.

I call my roadside assistance company and went into a nearby restaurant for food and shelter. Yesterday was hotter than hot. The technician came quickly and after a false start, diagnosed my battery as dead. He recommended I buy a battery from Costco instead of the one he had in his vehicle. He told me how to change the battery and advised that I could call him if I needed help.

My BFF was available to take me to Costco and held the umbrella over me as I wrestled with the battery leads. I almost gave up. In fact, I was having so much trouble with one of the leads, that my BFF called the technician. He wanted $50 to put in the battery … she told him to come and I re-dedicated myself to getting the old battery out.

I was able to change the battery by myself and all was well. Princess and I finished our errands and returned home to get ready for my Uncle’s 70th birthday dinner. The event was good. We were late, so we missed the happy hour but got there just in time for dinner.

After the celebration, I put the key in the ignition and I now have warning lights on the dashboard. After googling when I returned home, it is either I didn’t tighten the leads enough (very likely) or I need a new alternator. Of course since it’s a holiday weekend, I will have to wait until Tuesday morning to see my mechanic.

I am debating tinkering with the battery and disconnecting it and reconnecting it to see if that gets rid of the warning lights.

My Aunt from MD is here and she wants to go exploring the country side. There are currently 4 plus me, so it makes sense to take my minivan. But I am not comfortable driving any distance in it as it is. Even if fiddling gets rid of the warning lights, I still want a mechanic to look at it. ** Correction, only 3 plus me, so guess who went for a long Sunday drive? It was a lot of fun but my Aunt without a plan is not good for my belly as we did not stop to eat until close to 5 pm. We left my place at 12:45 pm. I had only had a cup of coffee and a protein bar at that point.

Tomorrow, I am on the schedule at the PT job so I need to figure something out. It’s not like I can’t take the bus to work, but I’ve been spoiled. I’ll figure something out. My mom has volunteered to take me. 🙂

Other than that, I didn’t exercise as much as I would have liked to. I did manage to have a walking/dinner date with one of my cousins. It was great to catch up. She recently went on a hiking trip to Scotland so that was great to hear about. I was supposed to borrow her hiking boots for my trip but I forgot all about them. Now I have to see her again lol.

Next week, I am only on the schedule at the PT job on Monday and Tuesday. Not sure how I am getting all these weekends off but I will go with it. On the FT job front, I have my mid-year review on Thursday. It will be interesting to see how this goes as I think it’s a waste of time. From what I understand I have to walk on water in order to be above meets expectations and I am not there.

As long as my van is fixed, there will be another walking date with my cousin on Wednesday. This time I will remember the boots.

Free Time

Coming up this week, I am going to see Wicked and have a birthday party to attend. I asked for the 2 days off from the part time job. Guess who has the whole week off???

Not sure how that works in their mind but OK. My only issue is that usually work Friday and or Saturdays which is how I get the new schedule. I refused to join the Facebook group and haven’t exchanged phone numbers with any of my coworkers yet. I will have to make trip to pick up the schedule next weekend. Good thing it is less than 10 minutes away from home.

Not sure what I am going to do with all my free time. Although if I was smart, I would use the time to get back on the exercise bandwagon. I went shopping yesterday with Princess and the multiple mirrors in the change room are very unforgiving. Plus my tight pants don’t lie. LOL

Last Thursday, I broke out an oldie and not so goodie, Ripped in 30 by Jillian Michaels. I thought I was going to die. That 30-ish minute workout took me over 45 minutes. There were many pauses. I was and still am very sore. I walked yesterday to try to alleviate some of the soreness. It didn’t work as well as I would have liked it to.

Going to try to work out in the morning and then go for a walk in the evenings all next week. I am really in need of a lifestyle change. This has gone on long enough. Going back to tracking my food on My Fitness Pal. I also see a cleanse in my future. I usually do one in the spring but didn’t this year so it might be time to make drastic measures in the short term … after cake day on Wednesday of course. 😉

In other news, I am in the process of renegotiating my mortgage and the number of spelling/grammatical errors in the emails from the bank representative is hurting me. I’m concerned about her abilities and kind of question all her “advice” now. O_o

I booked my plane ticket to visit my cousin in Portland, OR. I’m starting to get very excited about the trip. My cousin is recommending I bring hiking boots. Luckily for me, another cousin just got back from her hiking trip and we are the same shoe size! No need for me to purchase something I will probably only use once. Winner, winner!!!

Any suggestions on what to do in Portland are greatly appreciated.

PT job so far

I must say the universe has been kind to me. Since the acquisition of this part time job happened so quickly, I was concerned that it might too much for me. Especially when the training schedule was not conducive to my day job.

I survived last week. The job itself is not rocket science. It does get a little repetitive and fast paced at times. But nothing I couldn’t handle. Plus by the time it starts to get to you, your shift is over. Three hours goes by fast, especially when most of it is busy.

“Training” lasts 5 weeks. During this time shifts will not be longer than 4 hours. Next week’s schedule was released yesterday and I am only working 2 shifts, Friday 5:30-8:30 and Saturday 4-7.

I will not be getting rich from this schedule but at least it does not interfere with my day job and I can get to work out 4 days in the gym this week. Attempting to work out in the morning was unsuccessful last week. So the ability to get back to what works is making me happy. I never thought I would miss working out. I’m sure I will eat those words tomorrow night on the treadmill.

Other than that life has been relatively uneventful. Just the way I like it.

That was fast

I got confirmation on Thursday that I was offered the position, along with a training schedule that is not exactly conducive to my day job.

I was assured that it was only for next week, so we shall see.

The first part of training is 6 hours during the day Monday. I then have one 4 hour shift and three 3 hour shifts to round out the week. All shifts end at 7 pm so no late nights. 🙂 Not sure how long that will last, but I’ll go with it.

Since my first week of shifts are so short, it makes me wonder if the shifts they asked me about for my availability were current.

I will need to do a complete overhaul of my schedule. I don’t want to lose my 5 days a week work out momentum, so I am going to have to be on point with my days. In a perfect world, I would work out in the morning. Right now my cousin gets up at 4 am to work out. That seems a bit extreme for me. But I am going to try to follow her lead.

If I can get up and moving by 6 – 6:30 am to exercise, then I will be golden. Now to execute. If only it were that easy. As a non-morning person, this is going to be a challenge. But I have done it before, so maybe there will be some muscle memory that can be recalled. lol

Morning workouts mean that I will no longer be using the gym at work. 😦 I have really been enjoying … well maybe enjoying isn’t the right word … I have gotten into a good groove with going to the gym after work. I am seeing a difference in my body and I like it and want to get more into shape. I think the exercise has really helped with my energy level and immunity.

I deliberately left Sunday as unavailable to give me time to prepare for the week. My lazy weekends are going to be a thing of the past. I have a cousin who works both a full time and a part time job with rotating shifts. I will consult with her to see if she has any tips on how to make it work.

This weekend, I will pull my instant pot out of its box and figure out how it works. I think it will be a great help now that I don’t have all the time in the world. My meal planning will need to be on point as well.

I am going to have to be very organized. This may be a good change for me. Time will tell.

PT Opportunity

Not this past weekend but the weekend before, I went to a local chain restaurant and noticed there was a sign up announcing they are hiring. Since kitchen renovations don’t pay for themselves, I decided to go for it.

Instead of getting an application on the spot, I applied on-line. Truth be told I was really hungry and didn’t want to delay eating.

On-line there were also positions available in their call center, so I applied for that as well. I got an email last week to set up an interview for today. The call center is about 10 minutes away from my day job and about the same timing from my home.

At my interview, I was given an application to fill out. It included my availability. The shifts are longer that I would like. The shortest one is 6 hours. The latest shift starts at 5 pm. My day job ends at 5 pm. They are willing to work with me and offer a later start time. Even with that, I’m not sure that this is an opportunity I really want to take on.

There are mandatory shifts. One must work 2 out of 3 days between Friday, Saturday and Sunday. The weekend shifts are all evening shifts. Basically the weekend would be gone. Also, Valentine’s Day, Mother’s Day and Father’s Day are mandatory.

The lady who interviewed me is not the one making the decision, but she did think I would hear by the end of the week if they want to offer me the job. Training would be 2-3 days and then I would be live.

It doesn’t seem like complicated work. I would be taking food orders over the phone and entering it into their system.

I didn’t think to ask what the minimum amount of shifts I could work per week. I am hoping it is 2 or 3. Even that makes for long days as the earliest end time is 11 pm. While I am usually up at that hour, I am happily relaxing on the couch.

I think if offered the job, I will take it and try it out. Worse case scenario, if I don’t like it I can quit. Plus extra money can’t hurt right?
